what is home automation system?

According to wikipedia,

It is automation of the home, housework or household activity. Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

1. How To Make Home Automation System?

1.  Mostly,Raspberry Pi is used for Design home automation systems.Now,The first quetion snaps! your mind is 'What the hell is this Raspberry pi?'.don't worry here is the answer,

1. The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python.

   To design a home automation system is easy task all you have to do is just learn some programming  languages like python and java scripts. Mostly, These two languages are used for design any hardware based peojects.
2. but we preffer java script for our project.For apply java  script you have to learn about "Node.js".and again one question arise, "What is node.js?" here is the explaination about Node.js.
